Updated 2026-09-29. This page is the policy for Know Their Name.
Who we are
Know Their Name is made by Scrolling Is Evil LLC. Questions: support@scrollingisevil.com.
What the phone stores
Names and the clues, places, tags, notes, and pronunciation you type. Practice dates and spacing. Appearance and sort preferences. This data lives in the app’s storage on this device. There is no account sign-in.
What leaves the phone
Know Their Name does not create an account and does not send your names to a Scrolling Is Evil server. There is no analytics SDK and no advertising identifier in this version.
Each time you open the app, RevenueCat checks an anonymous app id against your purchase so Restore and the unlock stay in sync. If you buy the one-time unlock, Apple or Google also sees that purchase. Names and clues are not sent.
CSV export writes a file and opens the system share sheet, and the file goes only where you send it. Import reads a file you pick. The app does not upload either one.
Optional backup (after the one-time unlock) writes a copy to iCloud on iPhone, or to a folder you pick on Android. It stays off until you turn it on.
Purchases
The optional one-time unlock is charged by Apple or Google. RevenueCat sees the store account data needed to charge and restore that unlock. Notebook content is not sent to RevenueCat. Refunds follow the store that charged you.
What we do not do
We do not sell personal data. We do not use names or clues for ads. There is no App Tracking Transparency prompt and no advertising ID in this version. The app does not request tracking, location, camera, or contacts.
List of our other apps
Settings shows a list of our other apps. The app loads that list from a public file at scrollingisevil.com. The request carries no name, account, device identifier, or data from the app. Like any web request, it shows your IP address to Cloudflare, which hosts this site. If the request fails, the app shows the list built into it. Tapping a row opens that app’s store page.
Kids
Know Their Name is not directed at children under 13. Names are personal data. There is no kid mode, no school product, and no Families listing. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you think we have, email us and we will delete what we hold.
Deleting data
Export CSV from More if you want a copy. Delete all names wipes the notebook on this device. Uninstalling the app removes local storage. If you turned on backup, the backup stays where it was saved until you delete it there: on iPhone, open Settings, tap your name, then iCloud, Manage Account Storage, Know Their Name, and delete its data; on Android, delete the file from the folder you picked. There is no copy on our servers to delete. A purchase stays on the store account until you restore it.
